You know things are going well when at one stoppage late in the game a ref stops to ask fans how many three pointers a player has made. Rachel Pearson was on fire for the Dragons, hitting a program record-tying eight shots from deep. She was close on a bunch more. In all, the senior guard poured in a career high twenty-eight points as Drexel handled College of Charleston in their league opener.
Breanna Bolden paced the Cougars with seventeen points but had six turnovers.
The game featured perhaps the worst inbounds pass in DAC history. With just a few seconds left in the first half, Charleston had a player launch the ball to half-court. Her throw was just about ten feet off the mark and fell into the second row of the media section. Drexel capitalized by inbounding under the basket and scoring a quick layup.
As noted above, Pearson's eight made three pointers tied a program record. Her seventeen attempts were the most ever by a Dragon. Meghan Creighton currently has 332 career assists (averaging 6.6 per game this year) which puts her eighth all time at Drexel and just four off of seventh place. There is a good chance she'll be second overall by the end of junior season.
Drexel is back in action on Friday night at the DAC when they take on Northeastern. The men return to the DAC with an 0-2 CAA record and will take on William and Mary on Thursday and College of Charleston on Saturday.
